Nephrology
Department of Nephrology
The Department of Nephrology at the Affiliated Hospital of Shijiazhuang Medical College comprises outpatient clinics, inpatient wards, and a hemodialysis center. Under the leadership of its academic head, Professor Liu Bing, the department has continuously grown and expanded. It currently boasts a staff of one Chief Physician, one Associate Chief Physician, two Attending Physicians, four Resident Physicians, and sixteen nursing professionals. As one of the hospital's key disciplines, the Department of Nephrology is dedicated to advancing the field of nephrology in my country and providing superior medical services to patients.
Clinical Services Offered by the Department
-
Etiological Diagnosis
Distinguishing between primary and secondary renal diseases.
-
Functional Diagnosis
Clinically staging the functional impairment in patients diagnosed with chronic kidney disease.
-
Pathological Diagnosis
For patients suffering from nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, acute kidney injury, or unexplained proteinuria / hematuria, a renal biopsy is performed to identify the specific pathological type and guide treatment strategies.
-
Complication Diagnosis
Identifying systemic complications affecting various organ systems that may arise from acute or chronic renal failure.
Western Medicine Treatment encompasses traditional pharmacotherapy - such as corticosteroids, immunosuppressants, ACE inhibitors/ARBs (antihypertensives), and various detoxification agents - as well as cutting-edge medications that have gained prominence in recent years, including SGLT2 inhibitors, third-generation mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists, and Rituximab. Additionally, adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) is utilized to help address issues related to corticosteroid dependence. By integrating these advanced therapeutic methods and medications, we ensure our practice remains at the forefront of modern medicine.
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Treatment features a range of specialized therapies, including hot herbal pack application to the bilateral renal regions, Lei-Huo moxibustion, acupuncture, acupoint herbal patches, oral herbal decoctions, herbal enemas, and topical herbal fumigation/washes.
Through joint consultations between Western and TCM experts, individualized treatment plans - combining the strengths of both medical systems - are formulated to effectively stabilize the patient's condition and promote symptom remission.
Currently offered treatment modalities include various blood purification techniques - such as hemodialysis, hemodiafiltration, continuous renal replacement therapy, hemoperfusion, double filtration plasmapheresis, and immunoadsorption - utilized to treat patients suffering from acute renal failure, end-stage renal disease, multi-organ failure, and various forms of poisoning. Additionally, the department performs procedures to establish vascular access for dialysis, including the creation of autologous arteriovenous fistulas and the insertion of semi-permanent dialysis catheters.
Our department implements the "365/24 Plan," establishing standardized clinical pathways and structured follow-up protocols across the entire patient care continuum. Through multidisciplinary collaboration and integration, we are dedicated to upholding standardized protocols for the diagnosis and treatment of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), providing comprehensive solutions for CKD screening, clinical management, and standardized disease control.
Nephrologists are responsible for clinical assessment and treatment, while specialized nephrology nurses oversee outpatient patient education and the management of follow-up records. Leveraging the interconnected network between the Affiliated Hospital of Shijiazhuang Medical College and its associated medical alliance hospitals - and further supported by internet-based platforms for health promotion - we aim to disseminate disease-related knowledge and promote the "Three Earlys" of CKD management among the general public: early screening, early diagnosis, and early treatment.
Through a variety of online channels - including telephone follow-ups, WeChat messaging, official WeChat accounts, video channels, and TikTok profiles - we utilize information technology to deliver health education, dietary guidance, personalized meal plans, and public health lectures. These initiatives foster communication between medical professionals and patients, as well as among patients themselves. By implementing a systematic and comprehensive management approach, we strive to delay disease progression and enhance patients' quality of life.
We adhere to a standardized, systematic, and dynamic real-time management model, closely monitoring disease progression to facilitate the timely adjustment of treatment and management plans. Our objective is to provide patients with comprehensive guidance spanning multiple dimensions - including pharmacotherapy, lifestyle modification, dietary counseling, exercise rehabilitation, and psychological well-being - thereby creating a closed-loop patient management system encompassing early screening, precision diagnosis and treatment, and long-term follow-up. This approach ensures that patients have timely and comprehensive access to all relevant information regarding their condition, thereby improving treatment adherence, slowing disease progression, and ultimately enhancing their overall quality of life.
Advanced Equipment
The Blood Purification Center is equipped with 18 hemodialysis machines (fully imported from Sweden), 2 hemofiltration machines, and one bipolar reverse osmosis water treatment system featuring thermal disinfection, a zero-dead-space design, and integrated data acquisition capabilities.
1. The AK98: Currently the most advanced hemodialysis device available globally, this machine enables precise monitoring of various dialysis parameters. It features a highly standardized and user-friendly auxiliary pre-rinse function, as well as a dual-redundancy UF-Plus ultrafiltration system. This ensures ultrafiltration accuracy, maintains continuous flow with zero dead space, and significantly enhances both patient comfort and safety.
